{Review} The Oracle of Dating by Allison Van Diepen

For five bucks, the Oracle of Dating will tell you:

* How to flirt
 * If that cute guy you're crushing on likes you, too
 * Whether your new romance will last through lunch period
 * And much more

What she won't tell you? Who she is.

No one at Kayla's school knows she's the famous Oracle of Dating— the anonymous queen of dating advice. She doesn't even have a boyfriend. Two relationship disasters were enough to make Kayla focus on everyone else's love life.

But then her advice backfires on her own best friend. And Kayla starts to seriously obsess about Jared Stewart—the very cute, very mysterious new guy in school. Suddenly, the teen queen of advice needs her own oracle of dating—and she knows just where to find one….

My review

When I started this book, I was really really in a bad mood. I was so depressed that I didn't even want to read, which is quite rare for me. I can't remember a day when I didn’t read, even just a few pages. This book not only made me smile and cheered me up, and it was not easy, but it also made me want to read again. And just for that it totally deserves its 5 (even 6) out of 5 stars review. I loved it, it's a fantastic and utterly cute book.

Kayla is a really interesting character, she's very realistic, likable and entertaining. She's young but has really good advice for teenagers, especially when it comes to dating. I loved her because even if she's only 16 she's quite mature and everyone can easily relate to her. The Oracle of Dating reminded me of memories of my teenage years and I would have definitively loved to read this book when I was younger. I'm sure it would have been useful to me, just to know I was not alone with my questions. Kayla gets the same preoccupations I had and everyone could have, between 15 and 20. I really felt connected to her and her advice is really wise.

Jared, gosh, do I even need to develop? I was totally under its spell. He is not perfect, he has some flaws but it's definitively the kind of heroes I love. Kayla and Jared share an awesome chemistry. It's really interesting to see them interact. Everything is really credible. The sexual tension between them grows gradually and naturally. This novel deals with relationships in a realistic way that was refreshing.

Allison Van Diepen's writing is very smooth and I was hooked from the first line to the last. I read it really fast, in only one evening because I totally wanted to know the rest of the story. The storytelling is compelling. Even if the subject is quite common, I was spellbound all along, I was curious to know what would happen next. You feel really related to the characters and the feelings are well depicted, you have fun, you laugh with them and sometimes you also swoon with them.

To sum up, it's a quick, enjoyable and delightful read. If you're in a bad mood, a bit sad or depressed or if you're looking for a funny summer read, you should totally check out this one. I really loved it. I can't describe how great it was for me and my mood. It's the kind of cute books that puts a smile on your lips and butterflies in your stomach. I know there is a sequel but I'm a bit reluctant, in fact I've read the summary and now I'm a bit afraid that I won't like the plot at all, because I don't want this kind of thing to happen. I know it must sound a bit vague but I don't want to spoil anything. If you have read The Oracle of Dating and the summary of the sequel, The Oracle Rebounds, you will probably understand my point. However, I'm sure I will read it nontheless, I only hope it will be as entertaining and cute as this one.
