Demonglass - Hex Hall book 2 - Rachel Hawkins

Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch.

That was the whole reason she was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for delinquent Prodigium (aka witches, shapeshifters, and fairies). But that was before she discovered the family secret, and that her hot crush, Archer Cross, is an agent for The Eye, a group bent on wiping Prodigium off the face of the earth.

Turns out, Sophie’s a demon, one of only two in the world—the other being her father. What’s worse, she has powers that threaten the lives of everyone she loves. Which is precisely why Sophie decides she must go to London for the Removal, a dangerous procedure that will destroy her powers.

But once Sophie arrives she makes a shocking discovery. Her new friends? They’re demons too.

My review

I really enjoyed Hex Hall but Demonglass was even better. I didn't think it was possible, but it is. It was a quick but really funny, enjoyable and intense read.

The plot was fast-paced, full of mysteries and twists. It kept me spellbound all along and I was unable to put it down. The dialogues are tasty and amusing. Demonglass is full of discoveries, often shocking and really unpredictable, tension, mysteries and humor. There're also some moments a bit darker.

Sophie is really funny but she's also touching. She's sometimes a bit immature, and some of her decisions are a bit hazardous but it really didn't bother me and most of the time I really enjoyed following her. Without a doubt, it will be easy for all the teenagers to relate to her.

It was really interesting to meet Sophie's father. Their relationship is full of love but also really funny as both of them have the same temper. We understand where Sophie's wit comes from and she is as much sarcastic and snarky as her father. Some new characters are also emerging. Those secondary characters were full of riddle and surprises.

Demonglass was also full of emotions. You laugh - a lot - but you also cry and some moments are really heartbreaking, especially near the end. Some are also a bit frustrating and I often clenched my teeth. The ending is awful because Demonglass ends on a huge cliffhanger. I have to warn you, you'll be really angry to have such a cliffhanger, right in the midst of action. I don't know how I will be able to wait about a year for the sequel.

The only little flaw for me is the "teams", I really didn't want to have to pick one and above all, I was really unable to do it. It was heartbreaking for me to have to make a choice. When I thought I was decided for one of the boys the following pages came and changed everything. I really fear the next book and what Rachel Hawkins holds for us, I'm afraid it will be sad and tragic, but at the same time I really can't wait for it and I'm really looking forward to reading it.

To sum up, I totally loved this book, it was amazing, stunning and I can't wait for the sequel. Demonglass is packed with punches, twists, very funny instants, romance and mysteries. I often laughed out loud but it also some brought some sad and frustrating moments. I'm really looking forward to reading the sequel and any of Rachel Hawkins' books. I'm certainly going to buy the third book as well as the spin-off and also Rebel Belle the new trilogy of Rachel.

"Dad, she's just going to freak. And probably come here and get me, and then you guys will start yelling at each other, and I'll have to act out by wearing lots of eyeliner and doing the drugs ..."

et un autre ? (c'est un tout début ^^)

"The long flight from Georgia to England had been pretty uneventful. Exceept that Cal had sat next to me.
    Which was fine. Really.
It wasn't like I'd been hyperaware of his presence and jumped the three times his knee bumped mine. And after that third time, he definitely hadn't shot me a kind of disgusted look and said, "Chill out, will you?"
And when Jenna gave us both a quizzical look, we hadn't snapped, in unison, "Nothing!" Because all of that would have been weird, and Cal and I weren't weird. We were cool."

Héhé Enjoy (oui je suis sadique :D)
